Berkley & Woodstock Visiting Jesuits
Eugene Goussikindey, SJ

Father Eugene Goussikindey, SJ is an African Jesuit from Nairobi who has focused much of his work on how theology relates to conflict, politics and peace. Father Goussikindey entered the Society of Jesus in 1982, and has a BA and MA in Philosophy, a Ph.D. in Theology, a Licentiate in Theology, a BTh in Theology, and a Certificate in Human Formation. Father Goussikindey fulfills many roles as a Jesuit: delegate for formation of the West Africa Province of the Society of Jesus, editor of Afrika Yetu, a bi-annual Journal of the African Assistancy of the Society of Jesus (Nairobi), African Studies section editor of Ultimate Reality and Meaning (an African Philosophy journal), and Jesuit community rector and lecturer at the Hekima Jesuit school of Theology.

Most impressively, in 1999 Eugene Goussikindey founded the Hekima Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations. The Hekima Peace Institute's mission is to train students to provide instruction and expertise in peace building at a high-quality tertiary education level. Rooted in the Christian faith, the Hekima Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations commits itself to provide an ecumenical and interreligious perspective to conflict management. By sharing in Jesuit education heritage, the Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations pursues its mission through teaching, research, and fostering space for understanding through dialogue towards peace.

Father Goussikindey has been on campus before, as part of the Woodstock Theological Center's Global Economy & Cultures project.
