The International Visiting Fellowship Award Package:

Details of fellowship award. The Woodstock Theological Center is currently offering visiting fellowships for the academic year 2008-2009. Details of the fellowships differ for different types of applicants:

  • Visiting Fellowship for Jesuits: Visiting Fellowships are available to Jesuit applicants whose home province is outside the United States. The fellowship length can range from three weeks to twelve months. Each applicant must hold a doctorate or have equivalent professional accomplishments and be fluent in English. The Visiting Fellow is provided with room and board at the Woodstock Jesuit Community, a monthly spending stipend, use of a computer and printer while here, and reimbursement for economy airfare to and from the Fellow's home country.
  • Visiting Fellowship for Other Vowed Religious: Visiting Fellowships are available to those belonging to a religious order other than the Society of Jesus. The fellowship length can range from three months to ten months. Each applicant must hold a doctorate or have equivalent professional accomplishments and be fluent in English. Visiting Fellows who are vowed religious must make arrangements to stay at a Washington, D.C. religious community of his or her choice. Woodstock will then reimburse that religious community for the cost of providing room and board and a monthly stipend to the Visiting Fellow. The Visiting Fellow will also receive reimbursement for economy airfare to and from the Fellow's home country, use of a computer and printer, and use of a carrel in the Woodstock Library or workspace at the Woodstock Theological Center.
  • Visiting Fellowship for Lay Scholars: Visiting Fellowships are available to lay men and women who do not belong to a religious order. The fellowship length can range from three months to ten months. Each applicant must hold a doctorate or have equivalent professional accomplishments and be fluent in English. Lay Visiting Fellows are provided with a monthly stipend (subject to applicable taxes) which takes into account the amount of financial support requested by the applicant as well as the cost of living in Washington, D.C. (In recent years, the average stipend has been around $3,000 per month). The Visiting Fellow must arrange for his or her own housing in the Washington, D.C. area. The Visiting Fellow also receives reimbursement for economy airfare to and from the Fellow's home country, and is provided with use of a computer and printer and use of a carrel in the Woodstock Library or workspace at the Woodstock Theological Center.

All visiting fellows receive Georgetown University GoCards, access to the Georgetown University Library, and opportunities to participate in seminars on the Woodstock Theological Center's methodology.
