Woodstock Theological Center Publishes Four Volumes of Proceedings of Colloquia

The Woodstock Theological Center has issued four volumes of the proceedings in a series of colloquia on forgiveness in conflict resolution, Forgiveness in Conflict Resolution: Reality and Utility. The colloquia are part of a Woodstock study and consultation that aims to discover and describe the meaning and applicability of "forgiveness" in the resolution of conflict situations. This study is partially funded by the United States Institute of Peace. Volume one discusses conflicts in Northern Ireland and Bosnia, and race relations in the United States. The second volume is The Northern Ireland Experience, the third volume is The Bosnian Experience, and volume four is The Experiences of Truth Commissions.

Volume One, Forgiveness in Conflict Resolution: Reality and Utility, discusses "Forgiveness in Conflict Resolution: A Theological Reflection," presented by Drew Christiansen, S.J., senior fellow, Woodstock Theological Center; "Forgiveness in Race Relations," presented by Rev. Dr. Paige L. Chargois, Hope in the Cities, and Richard W. B. Ruffin, Moral Re-Armament; "Bosnia: Grassroots Participation in Conflict Resolution," presented by Douglas M. Johnston, Jr., and Olga Botcharova, both of the Center for Strategic and International Studies; and "The Northern Ireland Conflict: The Forgiveness Factor," presented by Brian D. Lennon , S.J., Interchurch Group on Faith and Politics, Portadown, Northern Ireland, and Gerard F. Powers, United States Catholic Conference.

Volume Two, Forgiveness in Conflict Resolution: Reality and Utility—The Northern Ireland Experience, discusses "Reflections on How Forgiveness Has Functioned in Northern Ireland (A Catholic View)," presented by His Eminence, Cardinal Cahal B. Daly, Diocese of Armagh, Northern Ireland; "The Blocks to Forgiveness," presented by Paul Arthur, University of Ulster; "Roots of the Conflict," presented by Jane Ohlmeyer, University of Aberdeen; and "Reflections on How Forgiveness Has Functioned in Northern Ireland (A Protestant View)," presented by Douglas Baker, Corrymeela Community in Belfast and Ballycastle and Kenneth Newell, Fitzroy Presbyterian Church in Belfast.
